Supporting Warsop Carnival

Over the last couple of years, Big Warsop has been supporting Warsop Carnival as part of its priority to strengthen communities. Big Local provided £10,000 of funding for the carnival in 2014, and £4,000 in 2015.

Warsop Carnival has been running since 1987 and has increased in popularity year on year. The event provides a fun day for families and the whole community and attracts around 6,000 visitors to the town. Traditionally the carnival begins with a parade made up of local dignitaries, marching bands and decorated floats that wind their way through the town to Carrs Showground, where the carnival is officially opened. Attractions on the showground include a fun fair, music stage, vintages cars, food and drink stands, and craft and charity stalls. The charity stalls use the day as a key opportunity to promote their work and raise vital funds to help them deliver their service. For local people the carnival is a chance to meet up with old friends and colleagues, and to get together as a community.

The carnival experienced a difficult year in 2012, when it had to be called off on safety grounds following a period of heavy rainfall. The funding from Big Warsop has helped Warsop Carnival to re-establish a firm financial base on which to build for the future.
