First aid skills for parents

Warsop Children’s Centre delivers a range of Big Warsop funded activities that contribute to our Empowering People and Having Things to Do themes. You can read the latest report from Warsop Children’s Centre here on our website.

Between September and December 2016 the ‘Having Things to Do’ activities included a Spooky Disco, a Christmas event at the Black Market, creche provision for a 123 Magic parenting course, and a trip to Chatsworth House.

FirstaidAs part of the Empowering People theme, 16 parents attended a Baby Heart Saver course at the Children’s Centre and received training and certificates from Valley Training. They increased their knowledge of CPR for babies and toddlers by learning key facts and taking part in practical tasks. Some of the parents who completed the course have continued to access the centre for other training and two have enrolled onto the Breastfeeding Peer Supporter course which began in January 2017. This will allow further support to parents to increase breastfeeding rates locally and help to achieve county targets.

At Meden Vale Bungalow, five local parents completed First Aid training in a bid to gain the first aid skills and qualifications they need to be able to support the running of holiday clubs and party sessions. The training allowed volunteers to successfully run events in December at the Three Lions and holiday clubs are also planned in the near future.
