CommunityBusHeaderdscf5736The Community Mini Bus provides transport for local community groups to allow them to participate in activities that may otherwise not happen due to cost or an inability for the groups to be able to reach an event. As well as community bookings, the bus is used by Meden School for travelling to weekly sporting activities, one-off theatre visits and educational events.

The 15-seater minibus was funded by a £35,000 investment from Big Warsop and, as well as providing transport for Meden School, it is available for use by non-commercial community groups and residents in the Warsop Parish. The bus has been adapted for wheelchair use to make it accessible to as many people as possible.

It provides an economical way to transport groups of local people to various events and locations and is currently used regularly by groups such as the Rotary Club, community bingo groups, local football clubs, primary schools, Warsop Scouts and Warsop Air Cadets.

Guidance on using the community bus

A driver is not provided with the minibus but the vehicle can be driven by anyone who holds a Category B car licence. Most people who are aged 21 or over and have been driving for more than two years should be able to use it, subject to some basic training and checks.

The school does not charge a fee for booking the community bus, but there is a small charge for fuel, based on mileage.

The Minibus can be collected from Meden School between 10.30 and 14.30 Monday to Friday only. The vehicle must be inspected and signed for both on collection and drop off.

Where the minibus is to be used over the weekend, keys are to be picked up on Friday and the vehicle left in the school car park until required.

Where Meden School has agreed that the user may return the vehicle outside business hours (Monday to Friday 08.30 to 18.00), the vehicle must be secured in the school front car park, in the space provided, and the keys retained until the agreed return time.

Bookings required during non-term time, must be made during term time, to ensure the vehicle is available for collection.

What you’ll need to bring when you collect the vehicle/keys

    1. Your driving licence.
    2. A £50 refundable deposit is to be left (cash or a cheque, made payable to Meden School), for which a receipt will be given.
    3. Mileage is invoiced at 45p per mile (inclusive of fuel and insurance).
